Silenced for Aung San Suu Kyi
Here at Causecast, we’ve worked to build awareness about the plight of imprisoned Democratic leader Aung San Suu Kyi and the people of Burma with the Freedom to Lead Campaign. The campaign has been gaining major media exposure for Shepard Fairy’s iconic image of the imprisoned Nobel Peace Prize recipient and Causecast recently hosted a Flash Mob for Burma. The Causecast online community of activists have also been stepping forward to share their passion for liberating Aung San Suu Kyi and the Burmese people. One Causecast user shared a short video he created documenting the recent protests for Burma outside the United Nations in New York City. Some of you loyal Causecasters may have already read about the demonstration in our interview with Buddhist monk and Burma activist, Maung Maung Tate. The monks and other Burma activists held a silent protest in front of the U.N. Security Council in September to support those who have been silenced by the Burmese military regime.
This video was created by Causecast user and filmmaker Jeffrey Hellman. He stands for justice, peace, and equality. He has been a passionate activist for Burmese freedom; involved with the International Campaign for Freedom of Aung San Suu Kyi and Burma, U.S. Campaign for Burma, and World Dharma’s Burma Project U.S.A./Canada, just to name a few. In efforts to raise awareness about Burma’s struggle for human rights and democracy, he expresses himself artistically through poetry, performance, and filmmaking.
