Every year, people around the world celebrate September 21 as Peace Day, honor a nonviolent ceasefire according to the U.N. resolution and recognize the importance of ending ongoing conflicts that hinder peace in our world. Peace Day is the brainchild of activist and filmmaker Jeremy Gilley. He founded the organization, Peace One Day, in 1999 to solidify his efforts to bring peace to the world, at least one day at a time. In just ten years time, Gilley’s had amazing success – but there’s still incredible obstacles standing in the way of world peace. Wars continue to rage in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the conflict in Congo is on par with a World War III.

Unfortunately, the Peace Day concert already went down on Friday in Paris. With Lenny Kravitz headlining, the Peace One Day 10th Anniversary Concert surely rocked the city. Be on the lookout for the location of the Peace Day Concert next year, you never know where it’s going to be!

If you decide to host your own Peace Day event, why not screen Gilley’s documentary The Day After Peace.

Here’s the trailer (Not so secret spoiler, Jude Law’s all about Peace Day!):

Be on the lookout for Peace Day events in your area. If you’re in L.A., head down to the Santa Monica Pier to celebrate Peace Day.
