On Monday June 15th, I spoke at the UN on the issue of Global Health in the midst of the economic crisis, in front of an international delegation. I shared my experiences about the positive global impact a celebrity can have, when they use their visibility as a platform to bring awareness to an issue that he or she is passionately committed.

The incredible impact that was felt from my role of ‘Jeanie Boulet’ on “ER”, still resonates today. As the Secretary General said yesterday “the AIDS pandemic is not over”. So, whether I’m out there talking about the challenges surrounding the HIV pandemic (here in the U.S. and abroad) or the immediate climate crisis, commitment is the key.

Yesterday was an empowering day. At first, I was a little hesitant being in front of all of those dignitaries. But within a short while, I was at ease. I’ve been desiring to step up to the next level, in terms of my activism. Yesterday was a wonderful first step. My day at the UN revealed that not only am I capable of stepping up, but from the response that I got, I think I ‘hit it out of the park’. Forgive the sports analogy! I love sports. Can’t help but think like a competitive athlete.

Stay tuned because I am just getting started.
