Campaign For Change

Rappers say "Get Your House Right"

Hip Hop isn’t just about bling, it’s also about proper financial planning. The Hip-Hop Summit Action Network, major industry associations and money lenders are joining forces to unveil a new campaign focused on fighting the mortgage crisis that is hurting minority homeowners. The slogan for this campaign is “Get Your House Right”. One way their trying to get the message out is by having it incorporated into popular songs. Kanye West is one of the artists that’s agreed to use it in songs. “We have the attention and the consciousness of the youth, of young professionals and young business people, young people graduating from college,” said Benjamin Chavez, president of this movement. “They listen to hip hop music. We believe we can come up with the formula to get the right information to people, either to keep from going into foreclosure or, for those who are buying a house, not to make the mistakes of people who did subprime,” the network cofounder said. “Home ownership is an anchor of the American dream. If you don’t have home ownership, it precludes you from doing other things that you need to improve your financial standing in our society.”
